Aksa Marshal has been a resident of Slough for the last 30 years, she lives with her husband and 2 daughters – Asa and Ana in Farnham Common.
Aksa is a fulltime care taker looking after her eldest daughter who suffers from a physical disability called Cerebral Palsy. Besides being a carer for the last 30 years, Aksa is a teacher, an exercise instructor and founder of a successful women’s group called ‘Meet & Mingle’.
Aksa worked for the Slough Borough Council with the sports and leisure department for 7 years, but was made redundant due to cuts in 2013. With a great passion and heart for the community for carers, women and people with disabilities, Aksa felt a great need for a social club for women who are lonely, isolated, depressed or stressed or suffering from long-term illnesses and health issues.
Lately Aksa was diagnosed with a shocking aggressive Ovarian Cancer, and went through a major surgery, and presently going through the chemotherapy treatment.
It has been a hard battle and a difficult journey, but believes her faith, prayers and well wishes from her family and friends brought her back on feet. Her biggest strength is her Meet & Mingle Family, which gave her positivity, determination, love and support to fight this illness. This time of battle has given her an opportunity and experience to understand more and have even greater passion to help anyone going through hard times in life, suffering from serious illnesses, as Cancer, Carers, isolated and lonely people, which was her main purpose and foundation aim to start Meet & Mingle in 2013.”
Aksa was awarded ‘Volunteer of the year 2015’ on 20th November 2015 by SCVS (Slough Council for Voluntary Services) at the award ceremony in Heathrow Marriott Hotel, Slough.
Aksa believes that....
“loving is seeking the others happiness and by doing so, finding our own happiness”.
